olympics and tibet

I'm for the Olympics, but I'm just disgusted at how HK Govt handles it

1: Olympics is for UNITY and cultural understanding. Politics should not be part of Olympics, and this is what Beijing claims when criticized, then why are politicians and business ppl running the torch? Not letting known-activists who might protest into HK is not a smart move either. What happened to the freedom of speech? HK ppl's attitude towards protesters and anti-23 are so contrastive... Go China is clearly inappropriate. There is the big need to instill some logic into the naive HK public....

2: Pro-Tibet and Supporting human rights are dissociated things. I can support human rights without being pro-Tibet. Another thing is pro-Tibet doesnt mean you should support the terrorists, either. I'm not pro-Beijing either, anyway.

3: Not pro-Tibet, because I think Alaska, Hawaii, California, Texas, Corsica, Tasmania, Alsace, Lorraine, etc. do not need to be independent...

4: CNN incident shows that Western media as biased as the Communists.

Riding waves

Long time haven't posted here :P

First time surfing and it was fun!
ヂアモンドヘアドビーチに行った、サーフィンした。

it was a LOT of paddling...

rode a few waves (but couldn't stand up properly or in time)
capsized a few times
Crashed into a rock/reef once

Luckily I remembered the survival guide says you should try to relax when you're pushed towards the reefs by the waves, so that I didn't get hurt more seriously

a deep cut on right forearm
a large patch of scratches on side hip on the hip bone
a slash on left forearm
small cuts over my palms
abrasions over by front body

dizziness (hmm... delirium to be more exact?) and uncontrollable shaking of right limbs
had first aid by 02 on spot and regained full consciousness
and coach also helped - and almost stopped all bleeding

washed and cleaned up the cuts and then back to UH for antiseptics

went into hospital once and had a tetanus shot and the injuries attended to (Thanks Tracy and Karis)...
Pasta for dinner (do Brits always have slightly more charm than Americans? probably something to do with culture? anyways our server sounded British)
home and sleep early

So, the recent HK sex pic scandal

Edison Chen is much better than Gillian.

Gill's press con was more like a publicity stunt attempting to rescue her career, but (at least from the news) Edison appears to be sincerely apologizing (although a bit late).

I think as Edison says it, he did not intend the photo to reach the public - if his taking of the photos is wrong, then by extension, Gill (and the other girls)'s consent to perform those acts along with consenting to taking the photos are wrong too.

Unless Edison took the pics without the consent of the females in the photos, those females are not on a higher moral ground than he is. Of course, he is stupid enough to let his assistant send his pink MacBook to be fixed when he knows he has those photos...

On the other hand, I think what Gill has said before w.r.t. what she has done, is nothing but a big lie. Saying pretty slogans, putting forward claims and pretending to be clean, cute and fresh... It just won't work. She should seriously consider changing her appearance (but actually she can't act - she can only act poorly :P )

back...?

I guess I'm back. Really haven't been in the mood of typing stuff (incl essays etc), but just think I should keep things going

Just had a dream about preparing for travelling w/ o3 karis and 02 - not sure if we were in a Chinese or Western restaurant but we were discussing plans... cant remember where was the destination either

the food was served, but then both karis and i forgot to take the pictures and 02 got hold of some food before we took our cameras out!

....

so as for 2007 and 2008 things are quite busy here at HI - hw is given out every day and sometimes the due date is next class

and i'll get to upload the photos that i've taken...

Original Spanish Lyrics:

Siempre que te pregunto
Que, cuándo, cómo y dónde
Tú siempre me respondes
Quizás, quizás, quizás

Y así pasan los días
Y yo, desesperando
Y tú, tú contestando
Quizás, quizás, quizás

Estás perdiendo el tiempo
Pensando, pensando
Por lo que más tú quieras
¿Hasta cuándo? ¿Hasta cuándo?

Y así pasan los días
Y yo, desesperando
Y tú, tú contestando
Quizás, quizás, quizás

<Instrumental Interlude>

Y así pasan los días
Y yo, desesperando
Y tú, tú contestando
Quizás, quizás, quizás

Estás perdiendo el tiempo
Pensando, pensando
Por lo que más tú quieras
¿Hasta cuándo? ¿Hasta cuándo?

Y así pasan los días
Y yo, desesperando
Y tú, tú contestando
Quizás, quizás, quizás
English Translation of Original Lyrics:

I am always asking you
When, how and where
You always tell me
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps

The days pass this way
And I am despairing
And you, you always answer
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps

You are wasting time
Thinking, thinking
That which you want most
Until when? Until when?

The days pass this way
And I am despairing
And you, you always answer
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps

<Instrumental Interlude>

The days pass this way
And I am despairing
And you, you always answer
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps

You are wasting time
Thinking, thinking
That which you want most
Until when? Until when?

The days pass this way
And I am despairing
And you, you always answer
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps
Adapted English Lyrics:

You won't admit you love me and so
How am I ever to know
You only tell me
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps

A million times I ask you and then
I ask you over again
You only answer
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps

If you can't make your mind up
We'll never get started
And I don't want to wind up
Being parted, broken hearted

So if you really love me say, "yes"
But if you don't, dear, confess
And please don't tell me
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps

If you can't make your mind up
We'll never get started
And I don't want to wind up
Being parted, broken hearted

So if you really love me say, "yes"
But if you don't, dear, confess
And please don't tell me
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps

Time for an update!

Home:
Bed frame (the real one) arrived today. Bedroom is a bedroom now. (Waiting for the desk though, and some more cables that we need to get :P )

Phonetics
Clueless... OK, not as bad as I describe it, but I can only get the gist of what's going on... B+ for Midterm 1 when 02's expecting a perfect 100%
still the labs and the latest hw ~_~

Syntax
going easy... just a bit of workload every week. Good, I can practice typing all these unicode and IPA stuff =P
* need to think about term project!

Corpus
Lab 6 and 7... progress is ok, I think
* need to think about term project!

Kamil weekly meetings
starting to feel like meeting steve!
too bad he's a UG follower :P
next: corpus search and quantifier scope

church
originally agreed upon going alternatively to different churches, but found a Chinese church
see see what goes on for the next week...

re: settling down
originally found time yesterday to do social security card, but stupid americans are so bureaucratic... we've waited 2 weeks for time to finally do it, and the guys there just try to leave work early?
darned red tape
decided to skip some time from monday's lab hours if needed and go on monday morning

Linguistics

Syntax I can handle with relative ease, corpus still kind of OK
but Phonetics is absolutely a bunch of jargons to me
... now how can I get the required GPA when I can't figure out the IPA?

the only good thing is that the dinner was good
